Marine Pollution

Introduction

Marine pollution refers to the introduction of harmful substances or energy into the ocean, resulting in adverse effects on marine life, ecosystems, human health, and coastal activities. This pollution can come from a variety of sources and takes many forms.Such as chemical pollution, plastic pollution, nutrient pollution, oil spills, noice pollution ect.

Chemical Pollution

This involves the release of harmful chemicals into the ocean. Common pollutants include pesticides, herbicides, oil, industrial chemicals, and heavy metals. These substances can be toxic to marine organisms, disrupt ecosystems, and accumulate in the food chain, ultimately affecting human health.

Plastic Pollution

Plastics, particularly microplastics, are a significant problem in marine environments. They are ingested by marine animals, causing injury or death, and can transport invasive species and pollutants across the ocean.

Nutrient Pollution

Excessive nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorus from agricultural runoff, sewage, and industrial waste, lead to algal blooms. When these algae die and decompose, they deplete oxygen in the water, creating dead zones where marine life cannot survive.
